Physicians, lawyers, engineers, weather experts, physical therapists, researchers and professionals from a variety of fields gathered last weekend to discuss the impact of climate change on health. The workshop "Climate and Health" was promoted by The University of São Paulo Medicine School with the support of São Paulo City Hall.

The main goal of the workshop was to prepare São Paulo for 2011 edition of C40 Summit, which will take place in the city from May 31st to June 3rd at WTC Sheraton Hotel.

On Saturday (April 9), Carlos Kendi, the C40 São Paulo Summit Committee Director, took the first step for the large cities event. "Today, we are actually starting C40."

On Sunday (April 10), the participants who worked together in six different groups divided by themes - water, air, earth, climate, mobility and waste - presented the results of their work from the day before. From detailed presentations, they showed problems and possible solutions caused by global warming and pollution and their impact on people's health.

Some of the proposals discussed by the groups included construction of green areas, urban space management, public transportation facilities to reduce greenhouse gas emission, waste management and environmental education.

The workshop result will be gathered in a document to be presented during the C40 São Paulo Summit.
