The Executive Secretary of the Ministry of the Environment, Francisco Gaetani, met on Thursday (March 31) with the Secretary of the Interior of the United States, Kenneth Salazar, and representatives from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) and the Chico Mendes Institute of Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) to discuss the Brazilian public policies in the environmental area.

"We are involved in a commitment to professional and technical qualifications, and we would like to make an exchange with the Americans. The American advanced technology can help us to combat deforestation", Gaetani said.

Kenneth Salazar said the U.S. intends to deepen relations between the MMA and the Department of the Interior. "The Ministry of the Environment of Brazil is seen by us as a dynamic institution, which promotes creative solutions to environmental problems, and is therefore considered one of the best organizations for the preservation of the environment worldwide. We want to exchange information and experiences which can help and assist in these challenges".
