The Executive Secretary of MMA, Francisco Gaetani, and the Secretary for Climate Change and Environmental Quality, Eduardo Assad, met on Friday (March 25), in Brasília, with students from the Stanford University (USA) to present the actions and challenges of the Ministry.
Francisco Gaetani addressed topics such as sustainable development, energy, biofuels, deforestation, global warming and the importance of international cooperation in preserving the environment in the country.
The Secretary for Climate Change, Eduardo Assad, said that the main sources of CO2 emissions in Brazil are deforestation and agriculture. "Our goal is to reduce by 80% deforestation in the Amazon and by 44% in the Cerrado. Currently, we are also concentrating efforts to establish a program to contain natural disasters, especially the rains, which have placed the country in a vulnerable situation", said Assad.
The international delegation was composed of 24 students from the United States, Brazil, Singapore, China, India, Iran, Japan, Bulgaria, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
