Brazil will present a bold goal of reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP-15) in Copenhagen. In addition to the estimated 80% reduction in deforestation in the Amazon Rainforest, the country will present at the UN Convention proposals to reduce emissions in areas such as energy (ethanol and biofuels), siderurgy, agriculture and cattle raising, as well as the decline in deforestation in other biomes.
To set the Brazilian position for the international conference, the Federal Government is analysing various alternatives. They were presented on Tuesday (11/3) during a meeting that gathered President Lula and the ministers of Civil House, Dilma Rousseff; Environment, Carlos Minc; Foreign Affairs, Celso Amorim; Agriculture, Reinhold Stephanes; Science and Technology, Sérgio Resende; Mines and Energy, Edison Lobão; and the executive secretary of the Forum on Climate Change, Luiz Pinguela Rosa. The definitive Brazilian position to COP-15 might be announced by Lula on November 14.
