From today, September the 21st, to Thursday, the 24th, Brasília will host the 5th Pan-American Congress on Fruit and Vegetable in Health Promotion. The main goal of this meeting is health promotion among the peoples of the American Continent by planning strategies for increasing fruit and vegetable consumption. The specialists claim that this planning must be associated to food and nutritional safety criteria, to healthy eating habits and to health promotion in general.
Brazil was chosen to host this meeting due to its warning level of excessive consumption of food high in sugar, salt and fat. Another feature of the Brazilian diet is the insufficient consumption of fruit, vegetables and food high in fiber in all income classes. This datum reflects badly on mortal statistics.
The Brazilian Ministry of Environment takes part in the Congress which is held in partnership with other institutions such as The Pan American Health Organization (OPAs). For further information, visit http://nutricao.saude.gov.br/evento/5_congresso_frutas_hortalicas/.
