The Brazilian minister of the Environment, Izabella Teixeira, participates this morning (November 23) in the Sustainable Hydropower Conference. The event is sponsored by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), in partnership with the International Energy Agency (IEA), and takes place at the Intercontinental Hotel (Av. Aquarela do Brasil, 75, São Conrado), in Rio de Janeiro.
Izabella attends the opening ceremony at 9 a.m., which will be conducted by the minister of Mines and Energy, Márcio Pereira Zimmermann. The conference aims to spur the use of hydropower in a sustainable manner, highlighting its positive effects on the economy of developing countries. The meeting also aims to encourage the Brazilian participation in hydropower projects in Africa.
The discussions involve experts in hydroelectricity, representatives of business community and donors, nongovernmental organizations, technical and high-level government officials from countries in Africa, Americas, Europe and Asia.
