Brazilian Forest Service
The Brazilian Forest Service (Serviço Florestal Brasileiro - SFB) received a visit from a Chinese delegation on Wednesday (November 3). The group came to Brazil to understand better Brazilian policies regarding land tenure in forest areas.
The delegation wanted to learn how the Brazilian government promotes access to the forest of communities living in the Amazon, because the Chinese government plans to change the system of property and ownership in forest areas aimed at populations with similar characteristics.
"Brazil and China are countries with large forest areas and although there are differences between them, we can find some common problems", said Qi Hong, Chinese Forestry Administration official and head of the delegation. "The idea is to learn and see what is possible to apply in our reform process", he added.
The ties between the two nations were enhanced in last October, when China hosted a meeting that brought together public institutions of the countries with the largest forest areas in the world, including Canada, China, Congo, United States, Indonesia, India, Mexico, Peru and Russia. On that occasion, the Brazilian delegation invited the Chinese authorities to visit Brazil and learn about the practices implemented in the country.
