On a visit to Brazil, the Japanese minister of the Environment, Osawa Sakihito, met on Tuesday (July 20) the Brazilian minister Izabella Teixeira to address the main issues to be discussed at COP-10, to be held in October in the city of Nagoya (Japan).
Sakihito stressed the importance of participating countries to set targets for short and long term for biodiversity conservation. He added that the Japanese government wishes to strengthen cooperation mechanisms for financial and technology transfer to Brazil.
Minister Izabella stressed the need for approval of the system of access and benefit sharing from genetic heritage (ABS), the main purpose of the mega-diverse countries in the United Nations Conference.
