Thousands of environmental representatives from around the world meet today (July 5) in Brasília for the beginning of the I Forum on Biodiversity of the Americas. The objective of the event is the collective quest for solutions to the environmental crisis. The focus of the discussions will not be the list of current environmental problems, but how society can solve them.

The Forum will be attended by entities such as the Mercosur Parliament, UNESCO and the Brazilian ministries of the Environment and Science and Technology. The event is organized by the Brasília Botanical Gardens, which is also responsible for launching the campaign "What do you do for the Planet?".

This question will be debated in different biomes of the continent, and the answers will be consolidated into a sustainability guide, which will be published in three languages and, then, sent to villages, towns, counties and cities. The agencies involved are also providing the virtual address of the Forum for people to contribute suggesting solutions.

Innovative and simple actions that contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and that can be applied anywhere on the planet shall be valid for the guide. Themes can range from research, recycling, environmental education, community action, art and culture, among others. The virtual addresses for sending information and solutions are www.biodiversidadedasamericas.blogspot.com and Este endereço de email está sendo protegido de spambots.
