Brazil will receive US$ 13 million for conservation projects in the Cerrado

The amount will be donated by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the MMA's Sustainable Cerrado Initiative Program

The Minister of the Environment, Izabella Teixeira, participates today (June 14) in the signing ceremony of agreement between the World Bank, MMA, ICMBio and governments of Goiás and Tocantins for the donation of US$ 13 million to four conservation projects in the Cerrado biome. The amount will be donated by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) to the Ministry's Sustainable Cerrado Initiative Program.

These projects should be implemented over a period of four years, and will contribute to preserving the biome through conservation activities, restoration, recuperation, rehabilitation and sustainable management of natural ecosystems.

The governors of Tocantins, Carlos Henrique Gaguim, and Goiás, Alcides Rodrigues Filho, the director of the World Bank in Brazil, Makhtar Diop, and the president of ICMBio, Rômulo Melo, will also attend the event, which will be held in Brasília (505 Norte, Auditório, Ed. Marie Prendi Cruz) this afternoon at 3 p.m.
