The minister of the Environment, Carlos Minc, presented on Thursday (11/5), at a press conference, the proposal of the Ministry for the improvement of the Brazilian Forest Code. The proposal, which will be discussed with President Lula, are based on the outcome document of a discussion forum that brought together government representatives, the Movement of Small Farmers, Contag, Fetraf/CUT and environmentalists.
The proposal submitted by the forum, according to Minc, has 70% of the points already commonly accepted and intends to serve as the basis for the sustainable development of the countryside, making life easier for the farmer and providing guideline procedures that have to be taken to environmentally regulate his property.
Among the changes announced by the minister are the simplification of procedures for approving and registering the location of the legal reserve, the payment for environmental services and the economic use of the legal reserve, the quota systems and the Federal Program of Environmental Adjustment.
"The 'war' is over. We will reach a good understanding on this subject", said the minister. According to him, the proposal has a broad technical and political base, and support from the family farmers. "This will lower the 'temperature' in the Congress", said the minister, referring to the debate on the Forest Code that has been taking place at the Brazilian Parliament.
